Nourish is an Educational and Self-Development program offered by the Cancer Support Program in Area 3 of Horizon Health Network.

Nourish was developed by Wellspring Cancer Support and is an evidence-based program that dispels nutritional myths, provides the latest recommendations on cancer-related eating, and offers helpful tips for selecting and preparing foods patients will feel better eating while undergoing treatment or living with a longer-term cancer prognosis.

Thank you to the Nashwaaksis Y Service Club for sponsoring this series of Nourish programming.

Nourish is FREE to participants thanks to our generous donors.

If you have any questions, contact our Program Manager, Angie, at (506) 450-7475.

Volunteer with nourish

Nourish is a free 12-week Cancer Support Program consisting of educational content, preparation demonstrations, sampling, and take-home program materials and recipes.

The goal of Nourish is to educate on the importance of healthy eating habits before, during, and after cancer treatment as it helps the body feel strong to better cope with side effects and to enhance long-term wellness.

Nourish Volunteers provide support to leaders before, during, and after demonstrations so that the nutritional programming can be effectively and efficiently delivered to participants.

  • Being familiar with the location of utensils and ingredients in the kitchen.

  • Ensuring the kitchen is clean and ready to use and that the dishes are clean before the session begins.

  • Depending on the amount of preparation that is required, arriving 30 to 60 minutes before the lecture or demonstration, to help prepare for the session.

  • Preparing food for demonstration by washing, measuring, cutting, and/or mixing ingredients and help with the cooking, if requested.

  • Helping plate food and distributing to participants.

  • Showing ingredients and packaging to participants, if directed.

  • During food demonstration, clearing participant tables and the leader’s working area by collecting cooking tools and used plates, cups, and eating utensils and hand washing and drying kitchen utensils.
