The Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation (SCCR) is a specialty, tertiary, Centre equipped and staffed to treat the most complex neurological conditions. These conditions include stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, and neuromuscular disorders such as muscular dystrophy, ALS and cerebral palsy. The Centre also provides treatment for the most complex forms of autism spectrum disorder. SCCR treats patients from across New Brunswick.
Chalmers Foundation supports a number of funds for SCCR to fund specialized programming.
Care & Comfort
The Care & Comfort Fund provides hundreds of small, meaningful items to patients at SCCR, helping remove barriers to recovery and bring moments of joy. These items — such as braces, splints, wheelchair cupholders, communication apps, and travel support — are often not covered by insurance.
Your donation to this fund helps individuals with disabilities access the tools they need to heal, thrive, and feel supported throughout their rehabilitation journey.
Bikes & Trikes
The Bikes & Trikes Program is the only initiative of its kind in Canada, offering children with complex neuromotor disabilities a customized bicycle or tricycle at no cost. These adapted bikes improve cardiovascular health, respiratory function, bone growth, and muscle strength — while also promoting independence and social inclusion.
Your support helps children across New Brunswick experience the freedom and joy of biking, while advancing their rehabilitation goals.
Pediatric Adapted Aquatics Assessment Program
The Pediatric Adapted Aquatics Assessment Program at SCCR is the only one of its kind in Atlantic Canada. It gives children with significant physical and neurological disabilities the opportunity to swim safely and independently — experiencing the therapeutic benefits of buoyancy and movement in water.
Each child receives a thorough assessment by SCCR’s expert team, and a properly fitted life jacket to take home. These jackets cost approximately $500 and are not covered by insurance, yet they are essential for safe participation in family and peer activities.
Your donation helps children in New Brunswick and beyond access this life-changing program.
General Fund for Rehabilitation
Sometimes, opportunities arise that require immediate action — before a public campaign can be launched. Our General Fund allows us to respond quickly to emerging needs, explore new programming, and support initiatives like the Stan Cassidy Kiwanis House.
Your donation gives us the flexibility to act when it matters most.
Kiwanis House
Located next to SCCR, the Kiwanis House offers a comforting, low-cost place for out-of-town families to stay while supporting loved ones through rehabilitation. We’re currently raising funds to upgrade its three accessible units with features like:
- New sleeper couches and hi-low dining tables
- Smart TVs, streaming subscriptions, and improved Wi-Fi
- Motion-sensor faucets and lighting
- Standardized clinical equipment
